The Dyslexia Rescue® Method

Zoom based lessons make reading come to life for a child with dyslexia, ADHD or other learning differences. Orton Gillingham based structured literacy lessons by a highly qualified tutor is available now.

The Dyslexia Rescue® Method

Dyslexia Rescue® provides a three-pronged approach to resolve the core problems faced by children who are struggling with learning to read. We use an Orton Gillingham-based structured literacy approach to address the needs of children with dyslexia and other learning challenges, grounded in research-based best practices in reading intervention. Interwoven into every structured literacy lesson are methods of developing executive functioning skills which are commonly in deficit in children with ADHD. And, as the confusions of reading failure reverse and breakthroughs come,  we are prepared to support the child emotionally through trauma-informed sensitivity and an emotionally healing approach.

Families have two program options to choose from:

Our first program option is individual, live, private zoom lessons - where all services are rendered directly by our founder, director and master dyslexia specialist, Diana Finch, M.Ed., M.Div., an IDA (International Dyslexia Association) listed service provider. This program lasts 6-12 months, on average, depending upon the needs of the child. *Results may vary.

Our second program option is our Dyslexia Rescue® Method: Structured Literacy for Families courses. In these video-based online courses, a child and parent work together to learn our Orton-Gillingham-based structured literacy curriculum and methods and then practice them together at home.

The Dyslexia Rescue (DR) Method is a three-pronged approach: structured literacy instruction, executive functioning training and trauma-informed practices.

Leading with the most powerful type of reading intervention - structured literacy instruction, we quickly and efficiently get to the root of confusions and resolve them. With training in Orton-Gillingham and Reading Recovery, a Master of Arts in Education, Elementary Education Certifications and a presidential appointment under George W. Bush, Diana Finch, M.Ed., M.Div., brings master-level expertise to every structured literacy lesson.

At the word level, our curriculum includes phonemic awareness, sound-symbol correlations, letter patterns that control vowel sounds, syllabication, affixes, Greek and Latin roots. Word level skills are integrated into reading running text, fluency, phrasing and comprehension. Our methods are multi-sensory, explicit, direct, structured, systematic, sequential and neuroscience informed. Curriculum and methods are research-based best practices, according to decades of the best research, as outlined in the National Reading Panel's report in 2000 and two and a half more decades of excellent additional research.

Each human is born sovereign and divine, with a spiritual core of peace, a still point. But, abiding in this life  can disrupt that in many ways. Through consistent, compassionate, expert behavioral intervention and co-regulation throughout each structured literacy lesson, we build the child's awareness and skill in self-regulation, inhibitory control, goal-directed persistence, attention control, planning and organization, working memory and cognitive flexibility, restoring their connection to their still point.

Emotional support is the cornerstone of the Dyslexia Rescue approach to reading intervention.

Having a Bachelor of Psychology degree and a Master of Ministerial Science degree with a trauma recovery emphasis, Diana Finch, M.Ed., M.Div., weaves emotional recovery support throughout her structured literacy lessons.

The cognitive dissonance of confusion is at the root of the emotional trauma response that often accompanies reading struggles. When core reading confusions resolve, pent-up emotions often release and restoration begins. Then, as we begin building knowledge and reading skills, confidence begins to return and a sense of wholeness is gradually restored.

Through authentic, compassionate support, relationship and mentoring  we hold the space for the child to heal on all levels: mental, emotional, social, familial and spiritual. As the cognitive and emotional dissonance of reading failure eases and fades, relationships come into balance, self-concept is improved and courage is  restored... flow is restored. That connection to their core becomes seated again, joy and flow return and the future looks brighter.

Through cognitive reframing, the student can learn to shift limiting beliefs or negative self-talk into healthier perspectives, integrating past experiences and processing suppressed emotions. Our whole-person approach integrates mind, emotion, environment and present moment awareness into each interaction, supporting each individual's innate drive toward wholeness. Mindfulness, centered breath and metacognition are offered in support of emotional regulation throughout each session. While holding safe space for the session, we rewrite the story of failure into one of wholeness and success through active listening and compassion, offering and cultivating insights into past experiences and new meanings.

Pedagogy

Dyslexia Rescue® Video-based Family Courses, Intro and Pedagogy

At Dyslexia Rescue, we strive to design programs that are pedagogically sound. Our founder, Diana Finch, M.Ed., M.Div., is a master-level educator and former federal-level school reformer. Her "outside the box" thinking (a gift of her own dyslexia) has earned her accolades and recognition at local, state and federal levels for designing and implementing trainings and educational programs that are profoundly impactful.

Structured Literacy for Families:

Restoring the Natural Ecology of Learning

At Dyslexia Rescue, our parent and educator programs are built on a pedagogically sound foundational design: learning through authentic participation. Parents and potential practitioners-in-training, along with their child participant,  are guided through a carefully sequenced, research-based series of lessons—first as observers, then as active practitioners.

Through our pre-recorded video lessons, participants see each technique modeled in real time, as a child learns to read step by step with Diana. Your child learns the skills passively while you learn how to teach them directly, later in the week.

This structure mirrors how master teachers have always passed on their art: through demonstration, reflection, and guided practice.

This approach is pedagogically sound because it honors the natural flow of learning—observation, integration, and expression. Parents and teachers don’t merely learn about structured literacy; they experience it from the inside out. It’s a method grounded in both research and relationship, proven to yield transformative results for children while restoring confidence and harmony in the learning environment.

Ultimately, this is not just an educational method—it’s a months-long journey of restoration. The same structure that trains teachers to reach every learner also empowers parents to reclaim their role as their child’s most trusted and capable guide.
